Hope College guard Kenedy Schoonveld has been selected the Great Lakes Region Co-Rookie of the Year by D3hoops.com.
The freshman from Zeeland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) shared the honor with freshman guard/forward Nicole Huffington of John Carroll, Ohio.
Schoonveld started all 31 games for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season co-champion and tournament champion Flying Dutch, who finished with a 29-2 overall record and advanced to the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Schoonveld finished as Hope's second-leading scorer this season at 11.3 points per game.
In 23.4 minutes per game, Schoonveld shot 49.2 percent from the field (127-258), 41.8 percent from 3-point range (41-98) and 78.9 percent from the foul line (56-71).
Schoonveld also recorded 3.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game to just 1.7 turnovers per game.
Schoonveld had three of Hope's 20-point games this season, including a team-best 25 during an NCAA Tournament second-round win against Washington-St. Louis.
