Hope College guard Lauren Newman has been selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week.
The junior from Flushing, Michigan (Flushing HS) is receiving the honor for the first time in her career.
Newman averaged 15.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game during two victories for the nationally-ranked Flying Dutch last week.
During a 60-38 victory at Albion College on Wednesday, Newman scored a career-high 25 points on 69.2 percent shooting from the field (9-13) and 66.7 percent shooting from 3-point range (6-9).
Her six 3-pointers in 31 minutes of play against Albion also were a career-high.
During a 104-39 home victory against Kalamazoo College on Saturday, Newman netted five points and three assists in 14 minutes of action. The Flying Dutch's 104 points were a season-high.
