2008 FALL MIAA RESULTS
MIAA Jamboree - at The Medalist, September
The Flying Dutch finished second in the season's first MIAA Jamboree held at The Medalist golf course in Marshall. Defending champion Olivet won the jamboree with a MIAA course record score of 322 strokes. Hope followed at 336 strokes (just five strokes off the old record) followed by Saint Mary's 340, Albion 366, Kalamazoo 379, Alma 384, Trine 385, Adrian 402 and Calvin 428. The jamboree medalist was Olivet's Megan Rimmel with a course record score of 39-39--78. Hope teammates Cassie Sneller (38-42--80) and Megan Scholten (41-39--80) were part of a five-way tie for second place. Scores of other Hope golfers were Katie Blodgett 42-44--86, Sasha Burau 47-41--88, Lindsey Springstroh 42-46--88, Margaret Livingston 44-48--92, Emily Atsma 47-47--94 and Jori Niemann 57-51--108.
MIAA Jamboree - at Zollner GC, September 20
The Flying Dutch finished third in the season's second MIAA Jamboree, but remain in second place in the season standings. League-leading Olivet won the jamboree and tops the standings. The Comets led the field over the Zollner golf course in Angola, Ind. with 310 strokes, followed by Saint Mary's 329, Hope 332, Trine 344, Albion 361, Kalamazoo 363, Alma 373, Adrian 391 and Calvin 394. The jamboree medalist was Amber Conrad of Olivet at 74. Hope's best round was scored by freshman Andrea McCarty who while competing as an individual shot a 78. Contributing to Hope's team score were Megan Scholten 82, Emily Atsma 82, Cassie Sneller 83, Sasha Burau 85 and Margaret Livingston 92.
MIAA Jamboree - at Watermark GC, September
The Flying Dutch, by virtue of finishing third in the season's third MIAA Jamboree, have slipped to third place in the seasonal standings. League-leading Olivet led the nine-team field at 327 strokes followed by Saint Mary's 331, Hope 333, Trine 354, Kalamazoo 359, Alma 374, Calvin 405 and Adrian 407. Lindsay Pipkin of Olivet and Rosie O'Connor of Saint Mary's shared medalist honor over the Thornapple golf course at 78 while only a stroke behind was Hope freshman Megan Scholten at 79. The scores of other Hope golfers were Cassie Sneller 82, Andrea McCarty 85, Sasha Burau 87 and Emily Atsma 89. Scores of Hope golfers entered as individuals were Lauren Zandstra 88 and Katie Blodgett 91.
MIAA Jamboree - at Lenawee GC, September 30
The Flying Dutch moved into second place in the MIAA standings by finishing second in the season's fourth league jamboree at the Lenawee country club in Adrian. League-leading Olivet won the tournament at 337 strokes while Hope ended at 347 followed by Saint Mary's 349, Albion 362, Alma 371, Kalamazoo 372, Trine 373, Adrian 398 and Calvin 411. The medalist was Rosie O'Connor of Saint Mary's at 81. Cassie Sneller led Hope at 85 strokes. Scores of other Hope golfers were Megan Scholten 86, Sasha Burau 88, Andrea McCarty 88 and Emily Atsma 97.
MIAA Championship - Bedford Valley GC, October
The Flying Dutch finished third in the final MIAA women's golf seasonal standings behind champion Olivet and runnerup Saint Mary's. A two-day, 36-hole tournament concluded the season. The two-day standings were: 1. Olivet 681. 2. Saint Mary's 685. 3. Hope 705. 4. Kalamazoo 747. 5. Albion 750. 6. Alma 761. 7. Trine 762. 8. Calvin 832. 9. Adrian 856. The medalist was Rosie O'Connor of Saint Mary's, 83-78-161. Scores of Hope golfers in the season-ending 36-hole tournament held at Bedford Valley CC were Megan Scholten 79-85--164, Cassie Sneller 88-87--175, Lauren Zandstra 91-93--184, Sasha Burau 94-90--184, and Margaret Livingston 101-91--192.
2008 FALL NON-LEAGUE RESULTS
Flying Dutch Sweep Opening Matches
The Flying Dutch opened their season with a double dual victory that was highlighted by a hole-in-one by a freshman player. Coach Eva Dean Folkert's Dutch finished with a four-player round at Holland Macatawa Legends golf course of 356 strokes followed by Cornerstone 430 and rival Calvin 438. Hope freshman Caitlin McDougall of Flint, Mich./Power Catholic HS, playing as an individual, shot the first ace of her golfing career on the par three 12th hole (130 yards). Scores of Hope players contributing to the team score were freshman medalist Megan Scholten 88, Cassie Sneller 89, Sasha Burau 89, Lindsey Springstroh 90 and Andrea McCarty 95.
Flying Dutch Fifth in Trine Tournament
In a tuneup before playing a conference jamboree on the same course, the Flying Dutch tied for fifth place at the eight-team Trine Invitational on Friday. Coach Eva Dean Folkert's Dutch will be back on the same Zollner golf course in Angola, Ind. on Saturday. Bethel, Ind. won the invitational at 314 strokes while Hope's fourth place total was 339 strokes. Leading Hope was freshman Megan Scholten at 82 followed by freshman Margaret Livingston 83, junior captain Cassie Sneller 85, freshman Sasha Burau 89 and freshman Lindsey Springstroh 93. Hope also had a "B" entry which finished eighth. Scores of those players were freshman Emily Atsma 84, freshman Andrea McCarty 88, freshman Lauren Zandstra 88 and sophomore Jori Niemann 91.
Flying Dutch Compete at Manchester
The Flying Dutch had two teams finish in the top four of the eight-team Manchester, Ind. Invitational. Bethel, Ind. won the tournament at 339 strokes while Hope'A' was second at 341 and Hope 'B' fourth at 347. Leading Hope 'A' was Megan Scholten at 78 strokes followed by Sasha Burau 85, Margaret Livingston 88, Cassie Sneller 90 and Andrea McCarty 91. Leading Hope 'B' was Lauren Zandstra at 78 strokes followed by Emily Atsma 86, Katie Blodgett 90, Jori Niemann 93 and Lindsey Springstroh 93.
Flying Dutch Win Own Invitational (10/7/08)
The Flying Dutch finished one-two in their own invitational the Macatawa Legends golf course. Hope 'A' topped the field at 349 strokes followed by Hope 'B' 369, Alma 380, Davenport 393, and Albion 418. Hope junior Cassie Sneller was medalist at 81 strokes. Scores of other Hope 'A' golfers were Megan Scholten 84, Lauren Zandstra 91, Andrea McCarty 93, and Sasha Burau 99. Scores of Hope 'B' golfers were Margaret Livingston 88, Katie Blodgett 91, Katie McDougall 92, Emily Atsma 92 and Lindsey Springstroh 95.
SPRING 2009 RESULTS
NCAA Qualifier #1 - Saint Mary's, April 9
The Flying Dutch finished third in the first round of the MIAA's qualifying tournament for the NCAA championships. The MIAA's seasonal championship was decided last fall. Three 18-hole rounds are being played this spring to determine who will receive the MIAA's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament next month. Host Saint Mary's won the first round on its home course, topping regular season champion Olivet by 13 strokes, 325-338. Hope was third at 353 strokes followed by Trine 364, Albion 393 and Adrian 455. The tournament medalist was Emily Gore of Saint Mary's at 36-41--77. Leading Hope was Megan Scholten at 44-42--86 followed by Cassie Sneller 46-42--88, Emily Atsma 43-45--88, Lauren Zandstra 46-45--91 and Andrea McCarty 51-47--98.
NCAA Qualifier #2 - The Medalist, April 24
The Flying Dutch are in third place heading into the final round of the MIAA's qualifying tournament for the NCAA championship. Saint Mary's tops the standings followed by Olivet and Hope. Freshman Andrea McCarty was part of a four-way tie for medalist honors with an 18-hole round of 80. Scores of other Hope golfers were Cassie Sneller 85, Megan Scholten 86, Lauren Zandstra 87, Emily Atsma 96 and Sasha Burau 99.
NCAA Qualifier #3 - The Medalist GC, April
The Flying Dutch are a picture of consistency after finishing third for the third consecutive time in the MIAA's qualifying rounds for the NCAA Division III championships. Saint Mary's will represent the MIAA at the NCAA tournament next month after the Belles finished 17 strokes ahead of regular season champion Olivet over the three spring rounds. Hope ended 63 strokes behind. Coach Eva Folkert's Flying Dutch had also finished third during the MIAA fall schedule. In Saturday's round Hope junior Cassie Sneller shared medalist honors with Lindsay Pipkin of Olivet at 80 strokes.
2009 SPRING NON-LEAGUE RESULTS
Flying Dutch Fourth in Millikin Tournament
Hope placed fourth among 15 teams at the Millikin Invitational. Illinois Wesleyan topped the field at 320-315--635. Hope ended at 334-328--662. 334. Hope junior Cassie Sneller tied for tenth in the field of 87 golfers at 77-83--160. The leader was Kayla Eckelkamp of Maryville at 76-75--151. Scores of other Hope golfers were Megan Scholten 83-79--162, Emily Atsma 85-83--168, Saha Burau 89-83--172 and Lauren Zandstra 89-87--176.
