Hope Women's Lacrosse Matches Season-High In Goals, Tops Adrian

Abigale Cassella, Emily Deane and Hannah VanAlst heated up at the right time for the Hope College women's lacrosse team on a chilly afternoon at Van Andel Stadium.

The trio propelled the Flying Dutch to a 14-11 win against Adrian Saturday by combining for 13 goals.

Hope (3-3 overall) matched its season-best goal output while improving to 2-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

The Flying Dutch remained in a first-place tie with Albion and Saint Mary's.

Cassella recorded a career-high and match-high five goals. The senior from Okemos, Michigan (Okemos HS) has a career-best nine goals this season.

Cassella recorded three consecutive goals over a four-minute stretch during the second half to extend Hope's lead to 13-7 with 9 ½ minutes remaining.

Deane chipped in a career-high four goals against Adrian (1-8, 0-2 MIAA). The sophomore from Rochester, Michigan (Rochester Adams HS) chipped in three goals during the second half.

VanAlst totaled four goals, two of which helped stake Hope to a 4-3 halftime lead. The freshman from Clio, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS) has scored 10 of her team-high 16 goals this week over two matches.

Goalie Alexandria Watts totaled eight saves. The sophomore from Union, Michigan (Edwardsburg HS) earned her second win of the season.

Hope returns to action on Tuesday, April 12 with a 7 p.m. match at Kalamazoo.
