Hope Women's Lacrosse Loses To Calvin In MIAA Tournament Semifinal

The Hope College women's lacrosse team finished its successful season with a 15-6 loss at Calvin in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament semifinals on Thursday.

The Flying Dutch ended with a 7-6 overall record that marked their most wins in a single season.

Sophomore Emily Deane of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Rochester Adams HS) scored three goals to lead the third-seeded Flying Dutch.

Senior Abigale Cassella of Okemos, Michigan (Okemos HS), junior Alexandra Webb of Woodland Hills, California (Calabasas HS) and freshman Hannah VanAlst of Clio, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS) chipped in one goal and one assist apiece.

VanAlst topped Hope this season with 26 goals. Deane had 25. They ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, among the Flying Dutch's single-season leaders.

Second-seeded Calvin (11-5 overall) scored six of the first half's final seven goals to grab a 9-4 halftime lead. The Knights advanced to play at top-seeded Albion in Saturday's MIAA Tournament championship match.
