Women's Lacrosse Tops Cleary In Season Opener With 22 Goals

The Hope College women's lacrosse team opened the 2017 season with one of its highest-scoring varsity games ever.

The Flying Dutch marched to a 22-3 win against NAIA Cleary University on Thursday during an indoors match at the Legacy Center in Brighton.

Hope matched 2013 goal outputs against Siena Heights and Loras, Iowa. The school record of 23 came against Olivet last season.

Senior Dana Kym of Libertyville, Illinois (Libertyville HS) and sophomore Bailey Berberich of Clarendon Hills, Illinois (Hinsdale Central) totaled five goals apiece to lead the Flying Dutch.

It was Kym's first game since she suffered a season-ending injury in the second game of last season.

Junior Erin Caton of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep) chipped in four goals and two assists.

Hope scored the game's first three goals and built a 14-2 halftime lead.

The Flying Dutch return to action on Friday, March 10 with the home opener against Capital, Ohio.
