Women's Lacrosse Breaks Team Scoring Record, Rolls Past Olivet

The Hope College women's lacrosse team set a school record for goals scored during a 25-1 win at Olivet on Tuesday.

The Flying Dutch improved to 6-4 overall and 4-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with their fourth consecutive victory.

Hope trails Calvin (7-5, 5-0 MIAA by a half-game heading into Saturday's 4 p.m. first-place showdown at Calvin.

Against Olivet, 11 different Hope players netted goals.

Senior Dana Kym of Libertyville, Illinois (Libertyville HS) and sophomore Madeline Shupe of Hinsdale, Illinois (Central), pictured at right, topped the balanced effort with four goals apiece.

Kym's team-high 26 goals this season are tied with former teammate Hannah VanAlst (2016) for seventh place all-time for a single season at Hope.

Junior Emily Deane of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Adams) and freshman Caleigh White of Royal Oak, Michigan (Royal Oak) chipped in three goals apiece.

Junior Erin Caton of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Pontiac Notre Dame) added one goal and four assists.

The four assists matched Maddie Ferguson for second most by a Flying Dutch player in their varsity history. Maddie Ferguson had four against Siena Heights on April 16, 2013.

Hope limited Olivet (0-11, 0-6 MIAA) to one shot on goal.

The one goal allowed matched the best defensive effort in Flying Dutch varsity history.
