This year's large senior class for the Hope College women's lacrosse team are leaving their mark on the Flying Dutch.
Saturday's 12-2 Senior Day win against visiting Alma gave Hope its eighth win of the season — the most in a single season since the Flying Dutch transitioned to a varsity program in 2013.
Hope (8-6 overall) will head into next week's MIAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed after earning a 6-2 league record.
Seven seniors were honored during a pre-game ceremony: goalie Alexandria Watts of Union, Michigan (Edwardsburg HS), defenders Mara Droppers of Winter Park, Florida (Winter Park) and Audrey Park of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Pioneer), midfielders Reinie Thomas of Portage, Michigan (Portage Central) and Alexandra Webb of Woodland Hills, California (Calabasas), and attackers Serena Harris of Preston, Idaho (Preston) and Dana Kym of Libertyville, Illinois (Libertyville).
Against Alma, Hope scored the first four goals of the match and never trailed.
Junior Emily Deane of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Adams) scored five times to lead the Flying Dutch.
Kym chipped in five goals to give her a team-leading 38 on the season. She has equaled Molly Greenfield (2015) for the third-most goals by a Hope player in a single season.
The others with more are Maddie Ferguson (50 in 2013) and Katie Sabourin (39 in 2013).
Junior Erin Caton of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep) and sophomore Madeline Shupe of Hinsdale, Illinois (Hinsdale Central) chipped in two goals apiece against Alma (8-8, 2-6 MIAA).
The Flying Dutch's MIAA semifinal is Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. at Saint Mary's. Top-seeded Calvin will host Adrian in Wednesday's other semifinal at 4 p.m.
Winners meet on Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed to play for an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
