Women's Lacrosse Falls at Calvin

Emily Deane and Rachel Elder both scored three times for the Hope College women's lacrosse team in a 12-10 loss at Calvin on Thursday.

The Flying Dutch recorded five of the match's final seven goals — twice cutting Calvin's lead to two during the second half — before suffering their second consecutive close defeat to one of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's co-leaders.

Hope is now 6-5 overall and 3-2 in MIAA matches.

The Flying Dutch's next match is Saturday, April 21 against Albion 1 p.m. It is the final regular-season home match for Hope. It is a Senior Day. There will be a free team poster giveaway.

Elder, a freshman from Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids), netted her final goal with 5 minutes, 54 seconds remaining kept the Flying Dutch within striking distance at 12-10.

Calvin (8-5, 6-0 MIAA) allowed only one Hope shot the rest of the match.

Elder and Deane, a senior from Rochester Hills, Michigan (Rochester Adams), combined for all of Hope's offense as the Flying Dutch tried to rally from a 10-5 deficit with 18:54 remaining in the second half.

Deane also finished with two assists.

Goalie Laurel Frederickson of Alto, Michigan (Lowell) made four saves for the Flying Dutch.
