The Hope College women's lacrosse team plays at Calvin in the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament on Wednesday, May 2 at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the championship Saturday, May 5 to face either Albion or Saint Mary's.
The Flying Dutch have qualified for the MIAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season and the sixth time in seven chances. The Flying Dutch are 1-4 in semifinal matches, with their first victory last season 12-11 at Saint Mary's.
Eight wins this season for the Flying Dutch are the second-most in team history. The 2017 team finished with a 9-7 overall record.
This is the third postseason meeting all-time between Hope and Calvin. The Knights won in last year's championship match and in the 2015 semifinals. The Flying Dutch are 1-8 all-time against Calvin, including a 12-10 loss at Calvin on April 19. The win came in the 2013 regular season.
The Flying Dutch have played the other MIAA Tournament qualifiers tough: losing to all three by a combined total of six goals.
Head coach Kim Vincent is in her fourth season leading the Flying Dutch. She has a career record of 30-28, including an 8-6 record this season.
Five of Hope's top seven goal scorers are freshmen: Carly Pieri with 33, Jane Ragains with 29, Rachel Elder with 24, Paige Wilmer with 20 (tied for fourth), and Madison Micho with 13. In all, freshmen account for 132 of the Flying Dutch's 193 goals.
