The Hope College women's lacrosse team engaged in a back-and-forth, defensive battle against Calvin College on Tuesday night.

The visiting Knights scored twice over the final six minutes to edge the Flying Dutch, 7-5.

Hope's record is now 8-4 overall and 3-2 in MIAA play. The Flying Dutch are in fourth place.

Goalie Laurel Frederickson of Alto, Michigan (Lowell HS) made 14 saves for Hope.

The Flying Dutch rallied from a 3-0 deficit midway through the first half to even the score at 4-4 on a goal from sophomore Rachel Elder of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids) 12 ½ minutes into the second half.

Calvin took the lead back 1 ½ minutes later, but Hope responded with a tying goal from sophomore Jane Ragains of Western Springs, Illinois (Lyons Township) with 6:36 remaining in regulation.

The Knights won possession on the draw control and charged up field for a go-ahead goal 37 seconds later from Jaimie Van De Burg. Calvin improved to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in MIAA play.

Hope midfielder Carly Pieri of Alto, Michigan (Caledonia) shared game-high scoring honors with three goals.

The Flying Dutch's next match is at MIAA leader at Albion College on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m.
