Women's Swimming & Diving Wins Two Events At MIAA Relays

The Hope College women's swimming & diving team finished first in two events at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Relays on Friday at Calvin College.

The Flying Dutch won the 200-yard butterfly relay and 400 medley relay during the nonscoring meet.

The 200 butterfly relay of junior Elisabeth Craig of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS), senior Chloe Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn HS), freshman Meg Peel of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) and sophomore Emma Schaefer of DeWitt, Michigan (St. Johns) clocked a time of 1 minute, 48.69 seconds.

The 400 medley relay of Schaefer, Palajac, freshman Hope Reynolds of Exon, Pennsylvania (Villa Maria Academy) and sophomore Paula Nolte of Elmhurst, Illinois (York Community) went 4:14.51.

Hope came in second in the 200 backstroke relay and the 200 freestyle relay.

The 200 backstroke relay of Peel, sophomore Erin Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic), Reynolds and Palajac recorded a time of 1:50.71.

The 200 freestyle relay of Schaefer, Nolte, sophomore Erica Slenk of Zeeland, Michigan (Holland Christian) and senior Sarah Zieschang of Austin, Texas (Veritas Academy) went 2:12.48.

The Flying Dutch clocked third-place efforts in the 1,500 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay.

Sophomore Allison Sobkowski of Portage, Indiana (Portage), sophomore Sophia Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn), and junior Abigail Brinks of Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern) went 17:06.99 in the 1,500 freestyle relay.

In the 200 medley relay, Reynolds, Nolte, Chloe Palajac and junior Sydney Asselin of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) had a swim of 1:52.34.

Hope's 200 freestyle relay of Peel, Slenk, Brinks and Asselin was fourth at 1:43.36.
