Freshman Meg Peel of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS) set a pool record in the 200-yard backstroke as the Hope College women's swimming & diving team downed host Albion College 168-132 on Saturday.
It was the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet of the season for the Flying Dutch.
Peel, pictured, clocked a winning time in the 200 backstroke of 2 minutes, 6.96 seconds. Teammate Hope Reynolds of Exon, Pennsylvania (Villa Maria Academy) finished second in 2:16.61.
Peel took first in the 100 backstroke with a swim of 59.53 seconds. Reynolds was runner-up at 1:01.79.
Peel led off the victorious 200 medley relay. She and sophomore Paula Nolte of Elmhurst, Illinois (York Community), senior Chloe Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn), and junior Sydney Asselin of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) went 1:51.60.
Palajac won three individual events.
In the 100 butterfly, Palajac recorded a swim of 59.30 seconds.
In the 200 butterfly, Palajac posted a time of 2:13.17. Sophomore Erin Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic) placed second at 2:15.51.
In the 200 individual medley, Palajac had a top swim of 2:13.91. Freshman Emma Schaefer of DeWitt, Michigan (St. Johns) finished runner-up at 2:19.06.
Schaefer swept the breaststroke events. She recorded a winning 100-yard time of 1:11:52 and the fastest 200-yard swim at 2;34.31. Nolte was runner-up in the 100-yard race at 1:12.19.
Asselin won the 50 freestyle in 25.61 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 55.66.
Junior Abigail Brinks of Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern) came in first in the 200 freestyle at 2:03.58.
Junior Sara Plohetski of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon) won 3-meter diving with a score of 225.60 points.
