Women's Swim/Dive Cruises Past Luther In Florida

Sydney Asselin and Meg Peel swam to two victories apiece for the Hope College women's swimming & diving team to a 137-43 non-league victory against Luther College on Thursday in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The Flying Dutch finished first in nine long-course events, including eight individual ones.

Asselin, pictured left, clocked a winning 50-yard freestyle time of 28.90 seconds. The senior from Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:25.44.

Peel, pictured right, took first in the 50 butterfly with a swim of 31.26 seconds. The sophomore from Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) won the 100 individual medley in 1:12.57.

Senior Betsy Craig of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids) went 1:10.77 in the 100 freestyle for first place.

Junior Erin Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic) recorded a winning effort in the 100 butterfly of 1:10.53.

Junior Paula Nolte of Elmhurst, Illinois (York Community) placed first in the 50 backstroke with a time of 38.64 seconds.

Sophomore Hope Reynolds of Exon, Pennsylvania (Villa Maria Academy) posted a first-place swim in the 50 backstroke of 34.63 seconds.

Hope's next meet is Saturday, January 12 at the Michigan-Illinois Quad hosted by Wheaton College (Illinois).
