In her first event at the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships in Greensboro, N.C., sophomore swimmer Meg Peel crushed her seed time by more than two seconds in the 50-yard freestyle.

Peel of Spring Lake (Spring Lake HS) was seeded 63rd with a time of 25.89 in the sprint event. In this morning's preliminaries, she clocked in at 23.79, good for 32nd place.

Peel's 50 free time at nationals became the fastest swim in that event by a Hope woman swimmer this season and the fourth-fastest all0time. The Hope record is owned by Libby Westrate who recorded a time of 23.34 in 2013.

Next up for Peel will be the 100-yard backstroke on Friday, March 22 at NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. Men's diver Brian Simonich of Highland (Milford HS) begins competing at nationals tomorrow March 21, on the 1-meter board.
