Senior Carli Capestany of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) became the 15th Hope College women's tennis player to reach 50 singles wins this weekend as the Flying Dutch finished seventh at the 12-team Midwest Invitational.
No. 22-ranked Hope posted a 2-2 record during the two-day tournament that concluded on Saturday with a 5-4 loss to Denison, Ohio and a 5-2 win over Gustavus-Adolphus, Minnesota.
On Friday, the Flying Dutch beat St. Catherine, Minnesota 9-0 and lost to No. 15 Chicago 8-1.
Capestany won all four of her singles matches. She has a career singles record of 53-34.
Capestany and No. 1 doubles partner Nandy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS), posted a 3-1 record during the tournament.
Capestany is 70-28 in doubles play at Hope, good for fifth all-time in school history. She is six wins from matching Jennifer Smith's school record of 76 (76-22 from 1997-2000).
Hope returns to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. MIAA match at Alma.
