No. 26 Hope Women's Tennis Edged By Wis.-Whitewater In NCAA Tourney

The nationally ranked Hope College women's tennis team finished the 2015 season with the second-most wins in school history after a second-round exit in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Flying Dutch lost to 25th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater 5-3 on Friday in postseason play at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.

No. 26-ranked and MIAA champion Hope finish ended with a 20-5 record. The school record of 23 wins belongs to the 1998 team.

The Flying Dutch took a 2-1 lead in doubles.

The No. 1 pair of senior Carli Capestany of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) and sophomore Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS), won 8-7.

Capestany concluded her Hope career with a school record 78 doubles wins and a single-season record 27 wins.

Benda's 24 doubles wins this season are tied for second all-time at Hope with Katherine Garcia (2009) and Julie Murray (1998).

Hope's No. 3 pair of juniors Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), and Anna Garcia of Battle Cree, Michigan (Lakeview HS), claimed an 8-5 against Whitewater. 

The Flying Dutch's lone singles point came from Garcia at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
