The Hope College women's tennis team took three flights from an NCAA Division I opponent in a 6-3 loss to Valparaiso in Saturday's season opener at DeWitt Tennis Center.
The Flying Dutch — ranked No. 21 in NCAA Division III — earned two points in singles play and one in doubles.
In singles, senior Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS) took the No. 4 flight with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Jordan Kopfer.
At No. 6 singles, sophomore Liz Pniewski of Lowell, Michigan (Grand Rapids Catholic Central) downed Erin Staal 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Claire Hallock of Lakeland, Florida (Harrison Center) and junior Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) teamed for a 9-8 (7) victory against Claire Czerwonka and Halle Roach.
