The nationally ranked Hope College volleyball team served up two impressive wins to begin the 2016 season on Friday, including a three-set win against second-ranked Wittenberg, Ohio at the Mount Union Purple Raider Classic.
The 17th-ranked Flying Dutch beat Wittenberg 26-24, 25-15, 25-18 immediately following a 25-16, 27-25, 25-21 victory against SUNY-Geneseo.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Feldpausch of White Cloud, Michigan (White Cloud HS) topped Hope with 23 kills over the two matches.
Three other Flying Dutch reached double-digit kills Friday: Junior outside hitter Haley Muller of Grand Rapids, Michigan (GR Christian) with 15, sophomore outside hitter Katie Rietberg of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) with 13 and senior middle hitter Courtney Van Houzen of Traverse City, Michigan (West HS) with 12.
Junior Sophia Hackett of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) totaled 39 assists and 18 digs during her first day as a starter. Hackett, pictured, totaled 28 assists against Wittenberg alone.
Senior libero Alexis Thompson of Monroe, Michigan (St. Michigan Catholic Central) chipped in 37 digs.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 3 with two more matches at Mount Union: 10 a.m. Eastern vs. Bethany, W.V. and 2 p.m. against John Carroll, Ohio.
