Why did you choose to attend Hope College? The feeling I got the second I stepped foot on campus. It was a feeling I had never gotten before, a feeling of belonging. Kinda like I was meant to be at this school because God chose this school for me. The beauty, atmosphere, incredible people, caring professors, class sizes, and support from other athletic teams was also a huge part of why I wanted to come to Hope. Besides the fact that the first game I saw Hope Volleyball play was the most driven and determined game I have ever seen a team play but also seeing them play with so much fire and love for one another. It made me want to be apart of that family more than anything! And I can honestly say it inspired me and now I try to do the same for girls looking at Hope Volleyball, to inspire them! Inspire Hope!
If you have chosen a major, please explain how you plan to use it after graduation: I want to do anything in my power to help others because that is what I feel I am best at and it makes me happier than ever knowing I went out of my way or unknowingly contributed positively to some one else's life! I want to go down the path of Sociology, possibly being an Art Therapist for people, specifically children and kids, who have gone through dramatic changes or experienced traumas throughout their life. This will hopefully help them learn that expressing their feelings through an artistic way may be better and more helpful to them on learning how to talk about those experiences.
List a favorite Bible verse and why it is meaningful to you: John 13:7. This is important to me because I feel that no matter what happens in my life, bad or good, God has a plan for me that He uniquely created just for me! And that sometimes I may get frustrated at times not knowing why certain things are happening to me but that if i continue to put my faith in The Lord He will direct me to goodness in my life. It is all about trusting Him that He knows what He is doing and that it is not to frustrate me but to have me learn from the experiences, bad and good, that I have gone through!
What is your favorite memory from a community service project you’ve been involved at Hope? This was not exactly community service but the volleyball team took a trip to Washington D.C my freshman year to visit Gallaudet, a school for the deaf. It was an amazing experience getting to know their volleyball team and how awesome those girls are! It's a special talent to be able to play volleyball as good as they did with absolutely no communication when all we talk about is communication.
Where is your favorite place on campus? Chapel!!! It is absolutely the most beautiful building on campus and its one place I feel safe and loved with nothing to worry about. I get this relaxed calm feeling when I go in there at any time, knowing that it is sometimes a good thing to take a deep breath and relax knowing God is there with you and he always will be!
What is your favorite pre-game music? I love watching our fans sing along to the songs on our playlist! It's like one big karaoke party and singing and dancing with my teammates is so much fun! So i would have to say pretty much anything pumps me up especially when everyones singing and dancing together!
If you could play another sport, regardless of skill, what would it be? Soccer or Softball! I used to play softball and I absolutely loved it so I would definitely do it all again! And to all you soccer girls, go you! If i could build up my lungs to run as much as you girls do I would play soccer. I praise you all at how fast and hard you run for such a long time too!
What is the best advice you’ve ever received? To just be optimistic and love and never stop smiling. As cliche as that is, I have learned that being happy, positive, and optimistic it really will help get through challenges i may be facing in life. And sometimes as hard as it is to be positive in some situations, then surround yourself with the people who love and care about you because their love will only help you blossom in your positivity. Never seclude yourself to just you, you do not always have to be perfectly happy all the time because no one is perfect but surround yourself with family, friends and God because their love is endless and unconditional and that is something special that none of us should ever take for granted.
