Volleyball Rebounds To Beat Aurora, Elmhurst At Invitational

The 18th-ranked Hope College volleyball team bounced back on Saturday to win its final two matches at the Elmhurst Invitational.

The Flying Dutch defeated both Aurora, Illinois, and host Elmhurst, Illinois in three sets after losing the day before in four sets to both Illinois Wesleyan and fifth-ranked Colorado College.

Hope improved to 8-4 overall.

Against Elmhurst, the Flying Dutch put a run of 17 consecutive points during the third set to earn a 25-21, 25-21, 25-11 victory.

Senior outside hitter Haley Muller of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS) topped Hope with 10 kills. Senior libero Mallory Luke of Saline, Michigan (Saline), pictured, had 15 digs.

Against Aurora, the Flying Dutch won 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 behind nine kills from junior outside hitter Katie Rietberg of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) and 30 assists from senior setter Sophie Hackett of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit Prep).

Against Colorado College, Hope received 15 kills from Rietberg, 11 from senior middle hitter Paige Baker of Encinitas, California (La Costa Canyon) and 10 from Muller in a 22-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-20 defeat.

Against Illinois Wesleyan, the Flying Dutch fell to 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18 despite 12 kills from Rietberg and 10 from junior middle hitter Grace Ditzenberger of Centennial, Colorado (Chaparral).
