Volleyball Splits Final Day Of Midwest Invitational, Haley Muller To All-Tournament Team

The Hope College volleyball team nearly put together a perfect ending to a busy weekend.

No. 14-ranked Millikin, Illinois rallied for a 24-26, 25-20, 22-25, 25-14, 21-19 victory over the Flying Dutch in the final match of the Midwest Invitational on Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse.'

Hope, which played four times in the two-day tournament, splits its two matches for the second day in a row. The Flying Dutch are now 15-8 on the season.

To open the day, Hope beat Kean, N.J., 25-12, 27-25, 25-19 behind 13 kills from senior Haley Muller of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a .357 kill percentage.

Senior Leah Dunlap of Winfield, Illinois (Wheaton North) chipped in 11 kills, while junior Katie Rietberg of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) added nine.

Against Millikin, Muller totaled 13 kills. Senior Paige Baker of Encinitas, California (La Costa Canyon) recorded 12 kills. Rietberg had 10.

Hope fought off five match points before Millikin (20-6) scored the final point.

Senior Sophie Hackett of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Prep) averaged 40 assists over the two matches.
