The Hope College volleyball team opens the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament on Friday with a 5 p.m. semifinal match against Saint Mary's College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Hope-Saint Mary's winner advances to Saturday's 4:30 p.m. championship match against either top-seeded host Calvin College or fourth-seeded Albion College. The MIAA Tournament champion receives the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship.
Hope (18-10 overall) is seeded second after finishing league play with a 12-4 league record. Saint Mary's (16-9) is seeded third after going 10-6 in MIAA play.
The Flying Dutch are seeking their 16th trip to an MIAA Tournament championship match and their second MIAA Tournament title in a row. They previously won the MIAA Tournament in 2016 at Calvin College and 2000 at Hope College.
Hope is 15-3 all-time in MIAA Tournament semifinals and 28-16 all-time in MIAA Tournament play.
The Flying Dutch are playing Saint Mary's in postseason play for the fourth time overall the second consecutive season. Hope has won all three previous meetings: 3-1 in 2016, 3-0 in 2010 and 3-0 in 2003.
Hope is 41-2 all-time against Saint Mary's. The two teams split their meetings this season, with each team claiming road victories. The Flying Dutch won in five sets on September 13 and losing in three sets on October 17.
