The Hope College women's cross country team competed in the Lansing Community College Invitational Friday and saw several runners clock new personal records.
The Flying Dutch placed sixth out of 21 teams after scoring 202 points.
"It was a very competitive race that allowed for many freshmen and sophomores to PR," head coach Mark Northuis said.
Sophomore Claire Muckian of Saint Charles, Illinois (East HS), pictured, finished first for the Flying Dutch. She took 39th overall in the 5K event with a time of 20 minutes and 19 seconds.
Freshman Sarah Cannon from Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids) placed second for Hope — only 6 seconds behind her Muckian. Cannon took 41st place at 20:25.
Senior Ellie Best of Portage, Michigan (Portage Central) clocked in at 20:45, taking 53rd overall.
Junior Emily Jackson of Grayling, Michigan (Grayling) finished in 20:57 for 58th place.
Freshman Avery Conely from Brighton, Michigan (Brighton) rounded out Hope's scoring with a 71st-place run of 21:13.
Senior Alicia Bostwick of Zionsville, Indiana (Zionsville Community) finished 75th with a time of 21:15.
Sophomore Katelyn DeWitt of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) was 80th with a run of 21:20.
Hope will run in two meets next weekend: at Muskegon Community College Invitational on Friday, October 12 and at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational on Saturday, October 13.
The Flying Dutch are ranked ninth in this week's United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches NCAA Division III poll.
