The Hope ice hockey team opened the 2013-14 American Collegiate Hockey Association season by skating past Colorado State University 5-2 Thursday night in Midland.

The Flying Dutchmen won their first game in the three-day Schupan Tournament as sophomore forward Brandon Flood of Mason (Lansing Christian HS) registered a hat trick. Senior goalie Drew Cook of Columbus, Ohio, (Upper Arlington HS) stopped 19 of 21 shots for Hope.

Hope returns to action tonight at 5:30 p.m. against California (Pa.).
