Maura McAfee's double-double of 20 points and a career-high 16 rebounds helped the Hope women's basketball team rally to win the highest-scoring game ever with rival Calvin.

The Flying Dutch won 88-81 Tuesday in Grand Rapids in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener for both teams.

The two nationally ranked teams passed the 2003 record of 160 points, which came in an 88-72 Hope win.

The Flying Dutch's depth continues to pay off, Hope coach Brian Morehouse said.

"The game is being called tighter in the NCAA women's games," Morehouse said after his team improved to 3-0 overall. "You need depth. Luckily we've got good team depth. It makes a huge difference for us."

McAfee, a sophomore from Midland (Midland HS), set a career-high for rebounds. They were the most by a Hope player since Courtney Knox recorded 16 during a 65-52 win at Adrian on Jan. 21, 2009.

It was a career-high in points McAfee as well.

McAfee led a group of four Hope players to score in double figures. Freshman point guard Angelique Gaddy of Caledonia (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) scored 16 points and had a team-high five assists.

Senior guard Anna Kaufmann of Davenport, Iowa (Davenport Central HS) chipped in 14 points off the bench, while junior Hannah Doell of Center Valley, Pa. (Southern Lehigh HS), added 13 points.

The Flying Dutch overcame an 18-3 deficit just 5 minutes, 19 seconds into the game. They clawed back to trail only 35-29 at halftime.

"We needed half time for two reasons: To make sure we re-grouped and got back to doing what we do and not having things dictated to us, and to regain our composure," Morehouse said. "Comebacks take so much emotion and half time came so we could go in and take a breath and coach them up a little bit."
