Maura McAfee
Guard Megan Kelley scored a game-high 17 points and forward Maura McAfee added a double-double as the nationally ranked Hope women's basketball team won at Trine 82-38 on Saturday.
McAfee, a sophomore from Midland (Midland HS, contributed 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. It was her fifth double-double of the season.
The Flying Dutch improved to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play.
Hope played its first game since Dec. 21 and its first game without its leading scorer — injured junior forward Rebekah Llorens of Grayslake, Ill. (Grayslake Central HS).
The Flying Dutch cruised to a 49-17 halftime lead as Kelley of Rockford (Rockford HS) scored 13 points and McAfee eight. Kelley shot 5-of-9 from the field and 3-of-3 from the foul line, while McAfee made 4-of-8 field-goal attempts.
Freshman guard/forward Elizabeth Perkins of Eaton Rapids (Lansing Christian HS) chipped in a collegiate-high 13 points off the bench.
The Flying Dutch shot 44.8 percent from the field (30-of-67) and 79.2 percent from the foul line (19-of-24).
