The nationally ranked Hope College women's basketball team tipped off its Post Exam Jam with an 86-44 win against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Saint Mary's on Friday night at DeVos Fieldhouse.
The Flying Dutch (6-1 overall) will play Chicago (3-4) in Saturday's 3 p.m. championship game.
Hope, ranked No. 12 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, posted its second-highest scoring game of the season. The Flying Dutch put three players in double figures.
Senior Rebekah Llorens of Grayslake, Illinois (Grayslake Central HS), led the Flying Dutch with 12 points.
Fellow starter Maura McAfee chipped in 11 points, all in the first half as Hope raced to a 41-16 halftime lead. The junior from Midland, Michigan (Midland HS), topped the Flying Dutch with five rebounds.
Senior Emily Klauka of Holt, Michigan (Holt HS), netted a season-high 11 points off the bench.
Senior Hannah Doell of Center Valley, Pennsylvania (Southern Lehigh HS), pictured, helped limit the MIAA's second-leading scorer to four points. Ariana Paul entered the game averaging 16.7 points per game.
The outcome counted toward the MIAA standings. At 3-0, Hope is one of three MIAA teams still unbeaten in league play. Trine (2-0) and Calvin (1-0) are the others.
Saint Mary's (3-5) is 1-2 in MIAA action. Eleni Shea led the Belles with 15 points.
Chicago defeated St. Vincent 84-68 in Friday's second game.
Chicago is now 3-4 on the season while St. Vincent is 6-1.
