The Hope College women's basketball won its 2014-15 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener by defeating Adrian 77-59 on Wednesday at DeVos Fieldhouse.
The 13th-ranked Flying Dutch improved to 4-1 overall.
Junior Maura McAfee of Midland, Michigan (Midland HS), recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a team-high 11 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
Hope collected a season-high 56 rebounds and finished plus-19 on the board.
Fourteen different players scored for the Flying Dutch.
Three had eight points apiece: senior Emily Klauka of Holt, Michigan (Holt HS), senior Rebekah Llorens of Grayslake, Illinois (Grayslake Central HS), and sophomore Tyra Smith of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS).
Smith, pictured, recorded a career-high in points.
Hope scored the game's first 16 points and led 40-19 at halftime. The Flying Dutch limited Adrian to 25 percent field-goal shooting during the first half (9-36).
Adrian fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in MIAA play.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Alma. Tipoff is 3 p.m.
