The unbeaten Hope College women's basketball team cruised to an 89-43 win in its makeup game at Alma College on Monday by burying a season-high 11 3-pointers.
Coach Brian Morehouse's Flying Dutch improved to 19-0 overall and 11-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.
Three players scored 12 points apiece to lead Hope, which extended its MIAA lead to two games over second-place Olivet College. The Flying Dutch shot 57.9 percent from 3-point range (11-of-19).
"It was a great team win with many contributors," Morehouse said. "I thought our defense was outstanding and our ball movement on offense was very good. We had no letdown when we subbed."
Sophomore forward Maura McAfee of Midland (Midland HS) led Hope's starters with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field in 14 minutes of action.
Two of her teammates each netted 12 points off the bench — freshman guard Elizabeth Perkins of Eaton Rapids (Lansing Christian HS) and freshman Mandy Traversa of Winfield, Ill. (Wheaton North HS).
It was Perkins and Traversa's second-highest total of the season. Traversa had 14 points at Olivet on Nov. 26. All of Traversa's points came off 3-pointers. She shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
Sophomore guard Autumn Anderson of Dorr (Wayland HS) hit two 3-pointers to score a season-high 10 points for Hope.
Senior guard Brittany Berry of Grand Rapids (Catholic Central HS) also made two 3-pointers and finished with eight points.
