The Hope College ice hockey clinched a spot in the national semifinals by edging Florida Gulf Coast 2-1 on Tuesday in Coral Springs, Fla.
The Flying Dutchmen (27-4-2-1 overall) secured their spot in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 3 playoffs in just two pool-play games. They wrap up pool play Thursday, March 13, at 7 p.m. against Pittsburgh-Johnstown, with the outcome having no bearing on the national semifinals.
Hope will play in the ACHA semifinals on Friday, March 14, at 3 p.m. The national title game is Saturday, March 15, at 3 p.m.
Junior forward Caleb Morgan of Traverse City (Traverse City Central HS) scored with three minutes remaining in the third period to give the Flying Dutchmen a 2-0 lead. Florida Gulf Coast scored with 39 seconds left.
Senior goalie Drew Cook of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington HS), made 25 saves for Hope.
