The Hope College ice hockey team will skate for a berth in the semifinals of the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 3 Tournament after winning its second pool game on Wednesday in Pelham, Alabama.
The Flying Dutchmen defeated Northern Colorado 5-3 to raise their record to 2-0 for the tournament.
Hope (26-3-3 overall) plays Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Central in the pool round finale. Bryn Athyn also brings in a 2-0 record at nationals, so the winner advances to Friday's national semifinals.
The Flying Dutchmen never trailed against Northern Colorado after jumping out to a 2-0 first-period lead on goals from senior defenseman Eric Webb of Portage, Michigan (Kalamazoo Central HS), and freshman forward Garrett Gormley of Fenton, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic HS).
Hope led 4-3 after the second period after goals from senior forward Jared Lehman of Carmel, Indiana (Watertown HS), and junior forward Ryan Restum of East Lansing, Michigan (Okemos HS).
Senior Caleb Morgan of Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS), closed the scoring for the Flying Dutchmen in the third period.
Junior goalie Eric Lipon of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), totaled 39 saves for Hope.
