Hope Ice Hockey Set To Skate After ACHA National Championship

The Hope College ice hockey team makes its bid for the American Collegiate Hockey Association Championship Division 3 championship this week in Pelham, Alabama.

The 16-team event runs through Saturday.

Hope (24-3-3 overall) is seeking back-to-back appearances in the national championship game and its fifth overall. Coach Chris Van Timmeren's Flying Dutchmen were national runner-up for the fourth time after a 1-0 loss to Adrian's Gold team last year.

Senior forward Drew O'Brien of East Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS), was named an American Collegiate Hockey Association Second Team All-American recently.

Hope skates in three pool games in an attempt to qualify for the national semifinals. The Flying Dutchmen are in Pool C along with Bryn Athyn, North Carolina-Wilmington and Northern Colorado.

On Tuesday, the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference Tournament champion Flying Dutchmen faces North Carolina Wilmington (19-7-1) at 1:30 p.m. Central

On Wednesday, Hope plays Northern Colorado (13-2-1) at 4 p.m. Central.

Hope wraps up pool play Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Central against Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania (23-2).

The national semifinals are Friday at 1 and 4 p.m. Central. The national title game is Saturday at 3 p.m. Central.
