Men's Golf Sweeps All Four MIAA Jamborees, Pads Overall Lead

The Flying Dutchmen take a 34-shot lead into the MIAA Fall Finish this weekend.

The Hope College men's golf team bolstered its bid for an MIAA championship with another first-place performance at a league jamboree on Monday.

Led by Will Webb's medalist performance, the Flying Dutchmen fired a winning score of 292 in Kalamazoo and extended their lead to 34 strokes after 72 holes.

The fall season concludes on Friday-Saturday, October 14-15, with the MIAA's Fall Finish at Kaufman Golf Course in Wyoming. Rounds tee off at 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The team with the lowest cumulative total after 108 holes is the regular season and earns the right to host the final two rounds of the MIAA's NCAA Division III Championships qualifier.

Hope (1,189) is followed by Trine University (1,223), Adrian College (1,240) Calvin University (1,253), Kalamazoo College (1,316), Albion College (1,323), Alma College (1,342) and Olivet College (1,380).

On Monday, Webb shot an even-par 71 at Kalamazoo Country Club. The sophomore from Lake Forest, Illinois (Lake Forest HS) carded three birdies and 12 pars during his round.

Teammates Seth Almquist (Minneapolis, Minnesota / Wayzata) and Patrick Michael (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) finished one stroke back and tied for second place.

Almquist, a senior, and Michael, a freshman, also each registered three birdies and 12 pars.

Hope ended up 15 strokes better than runner-up Trine. Adrian (311) took third, while Calvin (316) was fourth.

The Flying Dutchmen also received a 10th-place 77 from junior Will Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) and an 82 from freshman Liam Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central).

Playing as an individual, senior Jack Crawford (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) tied for seventh with a 76.
