The Hope College women's basketball team cruised through their ninth opponent this season to improve to 9-0. The Flying Dutch took down Kalamazoo College 98-42 on Saturday for the second road win of the season.
The Orange and Blue sank eleven points before the Hornets could find their first basket of the night. The 11 point lead was provided by a three-point shot from senior Kate Majerus (Sycamore, Illinois / Sycamore HS) to start the game. Senior Claire Baguley (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) completed a layup, and then Majerus picked up her fifth point with a layup of her own. The run was capped off by a three-pointer from freshman Sydney Vis.
The Flying Dutch held the Hornets under 15 points each quarter and to just four points in the fourth quarter, while Hope tallied a whopping 30 points in the final quarter. At five different instances throughout the game, the orange and blue would hold at least a 30 point lead over Kalamazoo.
Vis, a Byron Center native (South Christian), led the Flying Dutch in points for the second game in a row, picking up 16 points in the win over Kalamazoo. Vis connected for 5 of 7 shots from the field and went 2 for 3 from behind the three point line.
Freshman Karsen Karlblom (Crystal Lake, Illinois / Prairie Ridge) grabbed 11 points in the win, sinking 4 of 7 shots from the field and collecting three successful three point shots.
Both Baguley and junior Carlee Crabtree (Coldwater, Michigan / Coldwater) notched 10 points. Baguley, Crabtree and sophomore Courtney Lee (Fishers, Indiana / Heritage Christian) grabbed a team-high four rebounds for Hope.
