Two second-period, power-play goals propelled the Hope College ice hockey team to a 4-2 victory on the road against Calvin University on Friday and a split of their weekend series.

Calvin answered with a 3-2 road win in Saturday's ACHA finale, leaving the Flying Dutchmen with a 10-4 overall record and a 3-1 mark in Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference West Division play.

On Friday, freshman right wing Brady Breit (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center HS) and sophomore center Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) broke a 1-1 tie with power-play goals at the 10:11 and 19:18 mark of the second period.

After Calvin (9-5, 4-2 MCHC) pulled within a goal at 9:42 of the third period, Breit struck again seven minutes later for the clinching goal.

Both Breit and Onstott scored twice.

The Flying Dutchmen outshot Calvin by a 33-14 margin. Goalie Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin  / Kohler)  stopped 12 shots for Hope.

On Saturday, Breitt and Onstott delivered the Flying Dutchmen's goals.

Both pulled Hope even — Onstott 4:20 into the first period and Breit just before the second-period buzzer sounded.

Calvin's Sergey Yakunin netted the game-winner with 4:42 remaining.

Hope outshot the Knights by a 43-27 margin.

The Flying Dutchmen's next series is Friday-Saturday, December 1-2, against the University of Michigan.
