Women's Basketball Suffers First Road Loss of Season

The Hope College women's basketball suffered its first loss of the season during its first road game in Wisconsin.

The 79-68 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday evening put Hope at 4-1 this season.

Junior Olivia Bellows (Lake City, Michigan / Lake City HS) racked up a career-high 21 points, with 15 of those points coming in the second half en route to her fourth game in double figures in just five games this season.

Teammate sophomore Karsen Karlblom (Crystal Lake, Illinois / Prairie Ridge) notched 13 points for the Flying Dutch. Karlblom went a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line.

Junior guard Jada Garner (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) had a team-high seven assists.

Senior Raven Jemison (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Kentwood) and junior Courtney Lee (Fishers, Indiana / Heritage Christian) led Hope in rebounds, each with nine.

Wisconsin Lutheran, which gained the lead within the first three minutes of the game, only outscored Hope in one of four quarters, with the Warriors using their first quarter outscoring surge of 27-10 to stay ahead for the remainder of the game.

Wisconsin Lutheran had three players in double figures, including Sam Leisemann, who tallied a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

The Flying Dutch shot 39.3% from the field, and 68.4% from the line.

Hope opens MIAA play on the road on Wednesday, Nov. 29, traveling to Albion College for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
