ACHA Hockey Wins Finale, Splits with Oakland

The Hope College hockey team rebounded to earn a split of an ACHA series against Oakland University over the weekend.

The Flying Dutchmen won, 3-2 in overtime, on home ice on Saturday after losing at Oakland, 8-3, on Friday.

Hope is now 8-2 on the season.

On Saturday, sophomore Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) scored the game-winning goal at Griff's IceHouse West 3 minutes, 24 seconds into overtime. Jake Adams recorded the assist.

Oakland forced overtime on Shane Arbour's goal with 4:15 remaining in the third period.

Junior defenseman Ian MacDonald (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) and senior defenseman Ashton Bol (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) both chipped in goals.

Junior goalie Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) made 37 saves.

On Friday, Oakland erupted for a six-goal second period to break open the game.

Onstott scored twice for Hope.

Freshman defenseman Harrison Blecke (Essexville, Michigan / Midland) also scored for the Flying Dutchmen.

Hope's next series is Friday-Saturday, Nov. 11-12, against Saginaw Valley State University.

On Friday, the Flying Dutchmen host the opening game at 7:30 p.m. at Griff's IceHouse West. On Saturday, the two teams will play at 9 p.m. at Saginaw Bay County Ice Arena.
