Matt Henkel, Men's Tennis
Henkel has been a captain for the past three seasons and is a cornerstone for the team. He is consistent in his work ethic on the court which is an inspiration to be around. Henkel is passionate about building relationships with his teammates and has helped shape the team culture.Â
Ted Lockett, Men's Swim & Dive
Lockett is the team member for the Flying Dutchmen that wants the best for everyone around him and sees the best in them as well. He is intentional, accountable, and motivating. Lockett is constantly looking for ways to improve and helps to encourage and educate his teammates so they can also perform at their best.Â
Kai Francisco, Men's Soccer
Francisco is known for his integrity both on and off the field. He sets the example and models what the team is all about. During his time at Hope, Francisco has been an anchor to the team, finding ways to lead through COVID uncertainties and coaching transitions while navigating personal hardships. He was asked to play in multiple positions that he was not used to on the field, but always did what was asked of him to help the team. Francisco was also a captain this year. Â
Eli Schoonveld, Men's Basketball
Schoonveld is the heart and soul of the team. He is a dominant defensive player who plays with the utmost passion every second he is on the court. Schoonveld's toughness inspires his teammates and those around him to elevate their performance. His play helped lead the team to a remarkable end of season run, capturing the MIAA Tournament Championship and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship.Â
Brant Kym, Baseball
As a senior in 2022, Kym had a significant impact on the team culture for the Flying Dutchmen. He was a tireless worker and leader, inspiring those around him to do the same. Kym had a terrific season and played a key role in the MIAA championship run for Hope.Â
Carter Hitchcock, Men's Lacrosse
Hitchcock is an inspiration to the team after working through ACL surgery to get back on the field. He has been a positive presence at practices and a constant encouragement to each individual on the team. When Hitchcock returned to the game for the first time after recovery, it was a great moment for everyone.Â
Adam Gill, Football

ill was a leader on defense and special teams for the Flying Dutchmen and made a significant impact on the team in his senior season. He was also heavily involved with recruiting. Gill helped coach and mentor younger players who played his same position and embraced his role. He has served as a council leader for the team for all four years of his career at Hope.Â
