Men's Golf Heads Into Final Round of MIAA National Qualifier with Eight-Stroke Lead

The Hope College men's golf team heads into the final round of the MIAA's NCAA Division III Championships qualifier with an eight-stroke lead.

On Friday, the Flying Dutchmen shot a second-round 309 at Wuskowhan Players Club and tied for third place — five strokes behind first-place Adrian College and four behind second-place Trine University.

With a 36-hole total of 599, Hope is eight strokes ahead of second-place Adrian heading into the final round. The Flying Dutchmen are 14 strokes of Trine and 16 ahead of fourth-place Calvin University.

The final round tees off on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at Wuskowhan. The lowest cumulative score after 54 holes claims the MIAA's automatic bid to next month's NCAA Championships.

Freshman Liam Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) fired a 2-over-par 73 amid windy and chilly conditions to lead Hope.

Casey took second on Friday, one stroke behind Trine's Mitch Lowney.

Freshman Patrick Michael (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) carded a sixth-place 77 for the Flying Dutchmen.

Sophomore Jack Guerrera (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) chipped in a 79.

Senior Seth Almquist (Minneapolis, Minnesota / Wayzata) rounded out Hope's scoring with an 80.

Junior Will Robson (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) had an 81.
