Baseball Collects 11 Extra-Base Hits, Routs Grace Christian

The Hope College baseball team racked up a season-high 11 extra-base hits during a 19-4 victory against Grace Christian University on Wednesday at Boeve Stadium.

The Flying Dutchmen homered once, tripled three times and doubled seven times en route to scoring in each of their six at-bats. Hope evened its overall record at 16-16 with the non-league win.

Freshman left fielder Brenden Collins (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Hackett Catholic) slugged a three-run homer in the fourth inning and an RBI triple in the second. Collins went 2-for-4 with a team-high four RBI and three runs scored.

Junior center fielder Robbie Stuursma (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, including a two-run double in the fifth and an RBI single in the second.

Sophomore third baseman and leadoff hitter Al Money (Midland, Michigan / Midland) collected three hits in five at-bats with two RBIs and two runs scored. Money stroked a run-scoring double in the third and an RBI single in the second.

Senior designated hitter Spencer Cable (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Cable delivered a run-scoring double in the fourth and an RBI triple in the fifth.

The Flying Dutchmen totaled 19 hits, one off of their season-high.

Winning pitcher Jonah Schaller (Dudingen, Switzerland / College de Gambach) earned his first collegiate victory at Hope. The junior scattered five hits and two runs over three innings on the mound.

Schaller struck out four and walked three.

Hope's next game is Thursday, April 27, at 4 p.m. at Calvin University in the opener of a three-game series.

The Flying Dutchmen will host a doubleheader on Friday, April 28, at 1 p.m.
