Women's Track/Field Records Five Team Season-Best Performances at Davenport Tune Up

Senior Grace Behrens raced to a team season-best and first-place time for the Hope College women's outdoor track and field team at the Davenport University Tune-Up this weekend.

Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn) won the 400 meters with a season-best run of 57.19 seconds during the two-day, non-scoring meet on Friday and Saturday..

Freshman Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) clocked the fastest 200-meter time at 24.56 seconds.

Schermerhorn led a 1-2-3 finish that included Behrens in second at 24.95 and senior Julie Timperman (Lafayette, Indiana / Faith Christian) in third at 25.80. Senior Helen Dodge (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) took fifth at 25.96.

Schermerhorn sprinted to a runner-up, 100-meter time of 12.47 seconds.

The Flying Dutch also recorded team season-best performances in the 400-meter hurdles, pole vault and the shot put.

In the pole vault, junior Bethany Colbrunn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) cleared a team season-best 3.01 meters (9 feet, 10 ½ inches) for fifth place.

In the shot put, sophomore Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) posted a team season-best toss of 12.61 meters (41-4 ½) for fifth place.

In the 400 hurdles, freshman Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) clocked a team season-best run of 1:10.60 for eighth place.

Hope took third in both the 800 meters and the triple jump.

In the 800, senior Samatha Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) finished third with a run of 2:20.67.

In the triple jump, senior Kyria Gowman (Livonia, Michigan / Adlai Stevenson) recorded a third-place leap at 9.75 meters (32-0).

In the long jump, three Flying Dutch placed in the top eight: Dodge in fifth at 5.01 meters (16-5 ¼), freshman Meredith Kramer (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) in sixth at 4.90 meters (16-1), and junior Taylor Novotny (Batavia, Illinois / Batavia) in eighth at 4.80 meters (15-9).

In the high jump, sophomore Allison Schram (Fenton, Michigan / Hartland) placed fifth by clearing 1.54 meters (5-0 ½).

In the 400 meters, Timperman placed seventh at 1:00.06.

Hope's next meet will be the MIAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday-Friday, May 4-5, at Olivet College.
