Men's Golf Sits In Eighth after Opening Round at the 37-Team Illinois Wesleyan Invitational

Junior Will Robson and freshman Liam Casey each carded 3-over-par 74s to lead the Hope College men's golf team at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Friday.

With a team score of 305, the Flying Dutchmen are in eighth place out of 37 teams after the opening round of the 36-hole, two-day event at Ironwood Golf Club. Host Illinois Wesleyan leads the field at 287.

The final round tees off on Saturday, April 8, at 9 a.m. Central.

Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids HS) and Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) are tied for 13th in the individual standings.

Illinois Wesleyan's Juney Bai and Aurora University (Ill.)'s Jack Vercautren shot 68s to share the individual lead in the 212-golfer field.

Robson recorded one birdie on the 576-yard, par-5 fourth hole, 13 pars, and four bogeys.

Casey carded birdies on the 397-yard, par-4 first hole and the 398-yard, par-4 fifth hole, 13 pars, two bogeys and one double bogey.

Senior Seth Almquist (Minneapolis, Minnesota / Wayzata) shot a 78 for the Flying Dutchmen.

Sophomore Will Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) chipped in a 79.

Freshman Patrick Michael (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) finished with an 80.

Sophomore Jack Guerrera (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) had an 81.
