Women's Tennis Earns Sweep Over Albion For Eighth Straight Win

In a dominant display of tennis, the Hope College Flying Dutch defeated the Albion College Brits by a score of 9-0 to maintain their unbeaten record in league play. 

Hope College swept all three doubles flights, with freshman Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) and sophomore Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) leading the charge at No. 1 doubles, winning convincingly with an 8-0 score on Saturday at the VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts.

Sophomore Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) and senior Taylor Truman (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) also had a commanding victory at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-1, while junior Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and senior Delanie Riebschleger (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) completed the sweep with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Flying Dutch continued their dominant performance in singles play, sweeping all six flights.

Lopykinski maintained Hope's lead with a comprehensive victory at No. 1 singles, winning with 6-1 and 6-0 scores.

Moran followed her teammate's lead with an impressive performance at No. 2 singles, winning with the same scoreline of 6-0 and 6-0.

Weeber kept the momentum going for the Flying Dutch with another 6-0 and 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

Coffey kept the wins coming with a 6-0 and 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.

Truman put in a similar performance at No. 5 singles, winning with a score of 6-0 and 6-0.

Riebschleger rounded off the singles sweep for Hope with another 6-0 and 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

With this emphatic victory, the Hope College Flying Dutch improve their record to 6-0 in league play (11-5 overall) and maintain their position as one of the top teams in the conference.

The Flying Dutch return to the court on Saturday, April 15, as they travel to Kalamazoo College for a battle of the remaining two unbeaten in MIAA play teams. The match begins at 4 p.m.
