Football Pair Named MIAA Athletes of the Week

Two Hope College football teammates have received MIAA Football Athletes of the Week honors: punt returner Terrell Harris and running back Chance Strickland.

Harris (Whitehall, Michigan / Whitehall HS) is the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week.

Strickland (Mason, Michigan / Mason) is the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week.

Both are receiving MIAA weekly honors for the first time.

Harris set a Hope College record by returning a punt 90 yards for a touchdown during a 42-28 victory against Loras College (Iowa) on Saturday at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium.

The fifth-year senior broke a 64-year-old Hope record with the second-quarter play for the Flying Dutchmen. Hope's first score of the game came after the Flying Dutchmen fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter.

Harris later caught a 34-yard pass before halftime that tied the score at 21-21. The education major finished with two receptions and 38 yards and four carries for 51 yards.

Strickland rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns on a game-high 25 carries against Loras.

The junior scored on a 3-yard run during the second quarter and a game-clinching, 5-yard run during the fourth quarter for the Flying Dutchmen.

Strickland, who moved to running back this season after playing quarterback in 2022, caught one pass for five yards.
