Nationally-Ranked Women's Cross Country Charges to Third Place at Wheaton Invite

The nationally-ranked Hope College women's cross country team raced to a third-place performance at the Wheaton College (Ill.) Gil Dodds Invitational on Saturday.

With five runners among the fastest 31 times, the No. 27 Flying Dutch posted a score of 81 points.


No. 2 University of Chicago recorded the top five individual times for a score of 15 points. No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis took sixth with 58 points.


Junior Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central HS) led Hope's top group with a sixth-place run of 21 minutes, 54.7 seconds.


Senior Rebecca Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) placed 12th by clocking a run of 22:08.4.


Senior Libby Gorman (Traverse City, Michigan / St. Francis) finished 18th with a run of 22:34.4.


Senior Olivia Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) recorded a 20th-place time of 22:43.4.


Junior Janie DeGroot (Northville, Michigan / Northville) took 20th at 22:43.4 to round out Hope's point earners.


Eleven more Flying Dutch runners placed among the top 75 in the 256-runner field.
