ACHA Hockey Starts New Year with Commanding Victory

The fourth-ranked Hope College ice hockey team picked up in the new year where it left off in 2023.

The Flying Dutchmen skated to a 14-1 victory against visiting Davenport University on Tuesday in ACHA Division 3 play at Griff's IceHouse West.

Hope (14-4 overall) pushed its winning streak to four games after playing for the first time since December 8.

The Flying Dutchmen are 4-1 in Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference West Division games with series upcoming against division title contenders Grand Valley State University and Michigan State University.

On Tuesday, Hope scored 13 unanswered goals after Davenport evened the score 4 minutes, 38 seconds into the game. By the end of the first period, the Flying Dutchmen led, 5-1.

Freshman right wing Brady Breit (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center HS) and sophomore forward Hunter Maschke (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) both recorded hat tricks for Hope.

Sophomore center Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) chipped in four assists and one goal.

The Flying Dutchmen outshot Davenport by a 75-11 margin.

Hope returns to the ice this weekend with a two-game series at home against the University of Nebraska. Both games on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 19-20, begin at 7:30 p.m. at Griff's IceHouse West.
