ACHA Hockey Takes Two from Nebraska

The Hope College ice hockey team swept a two-game weekend series against the University of Nebraska's ACHA Division 3 team.

The fourth-ranked Flying Dutchmen skated to home victories of 5-1 on Friday and 6-0 on Saturday at Griff's IceHouse West.

Hope pushed its winning streak to six games and improved its overall record to 16-4.

On Friday, sophomore forward Brenden Tarpening (Flint, Michigan / Flint Powers HS) scored twice to lead the Flying Dutchmen: first at the 13 minute, 7-second mark of the second period to answer Nebraska's goal 43 seconds earlier, and then the final goal at the 16:39 mark of the third period.

Junior defenseman Nolan Holtrop (Walker, Michigan / Kenowa Hills), junior defenseman Ian MacDonald (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) and sophomore center Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) also scored for Hope.

Goalie Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) made 18 saves.

On Saturday, sophomore forward Keegan McNamara (Linden, Michigan / Fenton) and Onstott each scored twice against Nebraska.

Sophomore forward Hunter Maschke (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) and senior defenseman Ashton Bol (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) also scored.

Senior goalie Ryan McClelland (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) recorded the shutout with 23 saves.

Hope's next series is against top-ranked Grand Valley State University on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 26-27.

The Flying Dutchmen host the series opener on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Griff's IceHouse West, then skate at Griff's Georgetown Ice Arena on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
