The Hope College women's basketball team kept the foot on the gas pedal in its second showing of the season, taking down Loras College (Iowa), 60-37, on Friday in Grand Rapids.
The Flying Dutch, ranked No. 9 in the WBCA Division III poll and No. 12 in the D3hoops.com rankings, improved to 2-0 on the season.
Hope will conclude the Hope-Calvin Tournament at Calvin on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 4 p.m. against nationally-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University.
On Friday, the Duhawks (0-3) had the hot hand early, going up 5-0 and 8-2 on the Flying Dutch.
Hope quickly reversed course. The Flying Dutch grabbed their first lead of the game at 9-8 after junior Lauren Leach (Angola, Indiana / Angola HS) swished a 3-pointer with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. By the end of the quarter, Hope built a 19-10 lead.
The Flying Dutch did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game and grabbed their largest lead during the fourth quarter, 50-24.
Senior guard Olivia Bellows (Lake City, Michigan / Lake City) topped Hope with 11 points.
Senior guard Jada Garner (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) added eight points on 80% shooting from the field.
Freshman Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Christian) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while sophomore Terin Maynard (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) pulled down six, while also collecting eight points.
Hope outrebounded Loras 44-32 and forced 17 turnovers.
The Flying Dutch held Loras to 20% shooting from the field.
