The nationally-ranked Hope College women's basketball team soared past the Belles of Saint Mary's College (Indiana) at DeVos Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon with an 82-39 victory.
The Flying Dutch, unbeaten in MIAA play (2-0) and 8-2 overall, grabbed 15 consecutive points in the first quarter before the Belles scored.
Hope took a 22-7 lead by the end of the first quarter, and was up 46-18 by halftime.
Sixteen different Flying Dutch players saw the court against Saint Mary's (3-7, 0-2 MIAA), with four players recording double-digit nights.
Junior guard Sydney Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian HS) led the balanced scoring effort, sharing game-high 13 points with sophomore guard Terin Maynard (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison).
Sophomore guard Chloe Brunsberg (Chaska, Minnesota / Southwest Christian) and freshman forward Leah Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) each tallied 10 points apiece in the victory. Richards also pulled in a game-high six rebounds.
Freshman guard Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) slung five assists out.
Sophomore guard Maddie Petroelje (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) put up three blocks against Saint Mary's.
Hope hits the road for the final games of 2024. The Flying Dutch take on Muskingum University at the Wittenberg Holiday Classic on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m.
